The re-release of Baahubali: The Beginning has not been able to earn much in the first weekend.
The producers and distributors of the Baahubali films decided that it would be a good idea to re-release Baahubali: The Beginning in theatres ahead of the theatrical release of its sequel Baahubali: The Conclusion on April 28.
However, the plan did not work out well as reports say that Baahubali: The Beginning’s re-release could not bring people into theatres this weekend.
According to a report in DNA, Baahubali: The Beginning’s re-release fetched around Rs 2 crore on its opening weekend. Naam Shabana, however, which is running in its second week brought in Rs 5.20 crore. As such, the overall box-office collection of films this weekend was pretty disappointing.
Baahubali: The Beginning was first released in theatres on July 10 two years ago. The film wowed critics and audiences alike and earned big bucks at the box office going on to become a phenomenon of sorts. It is the third highest-grossing Indian film in the world.
However to release the film within two years of its first arrival seems like a bad idea as of now. What the film earns over its first week remains to be seen.
